And, the Indian garment industry gets bigger

textiles and garments, India's garment
exports totaled US$ 9.68 billions during
2007-08, giving it an enviable market share
of 3.42%. Of this, RMGs were US$ 9.4
billions. The Americas, EU, much of Asia and
Middle East are India's clients.
The industry proudly supports 6 million
people as part of its workforce, and aims to
double this figure by 2011-12; even today it
is the second largest provider of employment
in the country. For every INR100, 000
invested in the industry, an average of 7
additional jobs are created.
The Apparel Sector alone contributes to 8%
of India's total exports with exports
recording a 1% growth over last year. By the
year 2011-12, India expects to record a 15%
growth in quantity and 20% growth in values.
In RMG exports, India today ranks 5th in the
world, with a 3.3 % world market share and a
robust 11% growth. |
