Chairman's word - May 2017
What a busy summer month this has been! As most of you would be looking forward to a cool family vacation very soon, we, here at AEPC, are busy gearing up. There is plenty of excitement as preparations are well underway for Textiles India 2017, scheduled from 30/06-02/07/17 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It is already a sold out event (Actually oversold! But we are working closely with Ministry to get additional space alloted) and we are expecting an excellent response from Buyers, the world over. I have personally been extensively travelling and have accompanied Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, GOI, to New York, London and Republic of South Korea, among other places, to invite leading Buyers and Brand leaders to the fair. If your Buyers have not registered already, I would suggest prompt registration and bookings.
I want to express my gratitude and congratulate all of you- my industry members- on the accomplishment of very positive RMG export figures reflecting a volume growth of 20.3% and value growth of 18.2% over last March. The financial year has also shown a rise of 2.3% over last year. I am sure together we can do great business and achieve better results in the time to come! It is towards this objective that we continue to put our minds and efforts to exploring new markets. A high level delegation has just concluded a visit to Mexico and Brazil and we will soon be uncovering some great news for business with these lands.
In order to ensure better understanding for Exporters, AEPC has been organizing seminars to educate the industry about taxes to be implemented in the context of new GST environment and improved planning with hedging and interest strategies. A recent one, organised in Mumbai, was received with an overwhelming response. More of such seminars are in the pipeline and we would like to hear from you if you want one organised in your region.
I am also very concerned about the US$ appreciation and I have taken this up with the Honourable Textile & Finance Ministers to request for some intervention, lest our momentum of positive growth get affected.
AEPC has been also requesting the government to release more funds in the ROSL kitty and expedite the disbursement of funds as soon as possible. While the government has initiated the process, I urge my exporter friends to keep patience and be assured of getting their dues very shortly.
I am happy to announce that AEPC’s initiative for state partnerships has been making good progress. Besides Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Jharkhand, the team has begun an optimistic interaction with Gujarat State Government. Our maiden cluster development initiative is also being inaugurated with AEPC’s partnership with the Metiaburz cluster for their debutant Children’s wear fair scheduled in July 2017 in Kolkata.
Our support for Government’s initiatives towards digitization and cleanliness continues. We have been actively professing the message to adopt usage of tools like BHIM and encourage industry to adopt Swachchta as a regular practice.
Together we do great things! Lets continue!
