China's textile and
garment exports fell 11.4 per cent year-on-year in the
first 11 months of 2009, according to figures released by the Ministry
of
Industry and Information Technology.
The ministry blamed the
decline on weak global demand, but said growth is
accelerating at the country's largest textile firms which remain "an
important force in the international market."
It said exports at firms
"above a designated size" rose 7.8 per
cent year-on-year in November to 66.6 billion dollars -- the highest
level of
growth since May last year.
This represents the second
consecutive month of growth after exports rose
0.1 per cent in October and is a marked improvement on the drop of 8.4
per cent
in March and 7 per cent in June.
The
country's garment production saw a 10.9 per
cent year-on-year increase in November, compared with a 17.9 per cent
decline
in October. In the first 11 months of the year, China's textile sector
saw its
value-added output climb 9.1 per cent from the same period of last
year, the
ministry said.
